Governor Ahmadu Fintiri of Adamawa has officially announced his defection from the opposition Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).

The move came just days after the Speaker of the Adamawa State House of Assembly, Bathiya Wesley, confirmed that 15 members of the Assembly had resigned from the PDP during a plenary session.

In a broadcast from the Government House in Yola on Friday morning, Fintiri explained that his decision was made in consultation with citizens and stakeholders across the state, who expressed overwhelming support for the shift. According to the governor, the change was motivated by the desire to prioritize the state’s development.

“I have made this decision in the best interest of Adamawa,” Fintiri stated, adding that the transition to the APC had been reached after thorough discussions with various stakeholders in the state.

The governor’s defection is also accompanied by a shift in political allegiance by his cabinet members, as well as state and federal lawmakers in Adamawa.

The announcement follows an Iftar event hosted by Fintiri at the Government House last Saturday, where he met with an APC delegation led by Mustapha Salihu, the North-east Zonal Chairman of the party.
