Tems Achieves Another Milestone as ‘Love Me Jeje’ Earns RIAA Gold Certification Eligibility
Nigerian international superstar Temilade Openiyi, popularly known as Tems, has reached another remarkable milestone in her rapidly rising global music career. Her latest single, ‘Love Me Jeje’, has officially surpassed 500,000 units in sales in the United States, making it eligible for Gold certification by the Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA).
The achievement, first reported by renowned music chart platform Chart Data, comes just three months after Tems earned four additional RIAA certifications, further cementing her position as one of the most certified Nigerian artists in the U.S. market.
Tems’ journey from Lagos to the global stage has been nothing short of extraordinary. She gained international recognition in 2020 following her collaboration with Wizkid on the global hit ‘Essence’, which later earned a Grammy nomination and became the first Nigerian song to chart on the Billboard Hot 100. Since then, she has worked with global superstars such as Drake, Future, and Beyoncé. Her feature on Future’s ‘Wait for U’—alongside Drake—earned her a Grammy Award for Best Melodic Rap Performance in 2023.
Known for her soulful voice and genre-blending sound that mixes R&B, Afrobeat, and alternative influences, Tems has carved out a unique space in the global music industry. ‘Love Me Jeje’, which samples the classic Nigerian hit by Seyi Sodimu, showcases her ability to blend nostalgia with contemporary artistry—earning both critical and commercial success.
With this latest milestone, Tems not only extends her record as one of Nigeria’s most decorated artists but also reaffirms her status as a leading force in shaping the future of African music on the global stage.
