A Journey from Text Message to Face-to-Face
Dele Adeyanju’s path to meeting K1 began in a rather humble way—via a text message. Adeyanju, a dedicated fan of Fuji music and the Agbaletu podcast, reached out to K1 on April 1, expressing his interest in interviewing him. To his surprise, the response came swiftly, with K1 expressing that it would have been better to connect during Ramadan when he was less busy. Nonetheless, the legendary musician expressed willingness to make it work, even commending the Agbaletu podcast in the process.
The encounter, however, didn’t truly take shape until just two days later, when Adeyanju found himself at an event celebrating Baba Obey’s birthday in Lagos on April 3. There, K1 made an appearance. Seizing the opportunity, Adeyanju approached the Fuji star, introducing himself. K1 greeted him warmly, even singing his praises during a brief performance. It was in that fleeting moment that the seeds for the much-anticipated interview were sown.
The Unexpected Reschedule
However, the path to the interview wasn’t without its hiccups. A scheduled meeting at K1’s residence in Ijebu-Ode had to be postponed at the last minute due to an urgent matter that required the musician’s attention. Undeterred, Adeyanju agreed to reschedule, and the following day, at 9:30 am, he made his way to the musician’s private home.

When Adeyanju and his team arrived, they were met with a warm reception right from the entrance. K1, who had been busy preparing for the interview, personally greeted them around noon. The interview took place in K1’s private living room, where the two spent over two hours in candid conversation.

Adeyanju admits that his own expectations were shaped by public narratives surrounding the musician. Prior to the interview, he had heard rumors of K1 being a bully, unruly, and disrespectful. Yet, his personal experience was vastly different. “I make bold to say he is a contrast to public perception of his personality,” Adeyanju says. “I saw none of the negative traits I had heard about. Instead, I saw a friendly man who was kind, encouraging, and very personable.”
Beyond the formal interview, Adeyanju describes K1 as being “free and lively,” offering more than just a professional conversation. The Fuji star even took them on a tour of his resort, showcasing the various facilities and giving them a deeper insight into his life outside of the public eye.
