During an emotional interview on the Talk to B podcast, veteran Yoruba Nollywood actress Dupe Jayesimi opened up about the pain of living without a child, especially as she approaches 60.
Reflecting on her marital journey, she shared, “My husband married another woman just two weeks after I left him. The woman was already pregnant with his child.” She further expressed the heartache of not being celebrated on her 60th birthday. “I know how children celebrate their parents, but I have none to celebrate me or throw a party for me. On my birthday, I had to give someone money to prepare food and distribute it in my name. I then left the house to cry myself out in a hotel for a few days.”
Jayesimi continued to share her struggles, saying, “After undergoing a series of medical tests, doctors suggested I go through surgery to help me get pregnant. I informed my husband, and he told me to go ahead. But once I had the procedure, he disappeared for three months. When he returned, he told me to pack my things and leave. He had started distancing himself from me, even placing pillows between us in bed.”
She also opened up about losing her first pregnancy shortly after her wedding in 1988. “I got married on October 22, 1988. At the time, I wasn’t fully immersed in acting, and my husband’s job required him to be away for two weeks at a time. We had been praying for children, and although I was pregnant before our wedding, I sadly suffered a miscarriage a few weeks afterward.”
