Tacha Speaks Out: “Life Abroad Isn’t as Rosy as Nigerians Think”
Former Big Brother Naija housemate, Tacha Akide, has shared a candid perspective on the realities of life abroad, cautioning Nigerians against harboring false expectations about financial prosperity overseas.
Now based in the United Kingdom, Tacha took to social media in a recent video to address what she described as a common misconception — that all Nigerians living abroad are wealthy and enjoying a high standard of living. According to her, many are actually struggling to make ends meet.
“You see those of you always having inferiority complex in Nigeria, thinking everyone here is rich — most people here are broke,” she said. “The most broke people I have met are actually the people I met in the UK. Everyone is just managing. It is expensive.”
She emphasized that the cost of living in the UK is significantly high, pointing out that simple daily expenses can quickly add up. “You can spend ₦300,000 on taxis in just one day, and over ₦1 million on a car in a week — unless you’re using the train,” she added.
Tacha urged Nigerians considering relocation to do so with a realistic mindset rather than illusions of luxury. “Trust me, the living situation here is not rosy. In fact, most people in Nigeria are living better off than people actually living here,” she said.
Drawing from her personal experience, the reality TV star reiterated that while relocating can offer new opportunities, it also comes with significant financial and emotional challenges — a reality often left out of the picture portrayed online.
