Sunday Igboho Extradiction:pros and cons

by Salami Azeez

The reported arrest of Sunday Adeyemo, a.k.a. Sunday Igboho has generated fear and condemnation in the South-West region of Nigeria.

The Yoruba nation agitator was reportedly nabbed Monday night in Cotonou, Benin Republic, at an airport while he was trying to fly out of the country to Germany.

There have been Security updates on Tuesday morning cautioning residents to avoid volatile areas and to stay peaceful and avoid certain location.

In view of this,it is a known fact that extraditing Sunday Igboho will add to the list of those who view the current government as using double standard in addressing the issues Southern Nigeria differently from how the same government pampers the bandits as well as amnesty to Boko Haram members in the northern parts of the country.

Also some have viewed the government as one that uses all state apparatus to go against the southern agitators like Mazi Nnamdi Kanu and now Sunday Igboho but same government finds it difficult to use same intelligence in fishing out the bandits that shot down the Nigerian Airforce jet fighter during the weekend while major general Hussaini Ahmed was shot to dead by so called bandits yet the same government finds it hard to term the Fulani herdsmen terrorist organization.

It is a pity that ethnicity, religious bigotry and double standard has characterized the action of those in government.

Inconclusion ,the Benin republic government should know that the world is watching how the government will handle the case of Sunday Igboho, justice, rule of law and standard practice regarding extradition of any human around the world. Also Benin republic should know that she exist as an independent nation and as such should not compel to any intimidation or threat from the Nigerian government regarding the extradition of Sunday Igboho.
