The coroner’s inquest into the tragic death of 12-year-old Whitney Adeniran continued on Friday at the Magistrates’ Court in Ikeja, with key legal representatives in attendance but notable absences from Chrisland Schools and a vendor allegedly linked to the incident.

The case, filed under Suit No. MCIK/CONA/1/2023, is aimed at uncovering the circumstances surrounding the death of the student during a school-organized event earlier this year.

Representing the Lagos State Attorney General’s office was legal counsel Araba. The Federal Competition and Consumer Protection Commission (FCCPC) was represented by Abimbola Ojenike and Oluwadamilola Omotosho. The deceased’s family was represented by Oluwatodimu Ige, Obiechina Justin, and Oluwabusayomi Gbadegesin.

According to Conscience News, both Chrisland Schools and Mr. Ademoye Adewale—the vendor allegedly associated with the incident—failed to appear in court, despite receiving formal notices to attend.

During the session, expert medical evidence was presented to the court, shedding light on the cause of death.

Dr. Sanni Daniel, the pathologist who performed the autopsy, testified that Whitney died as a result of asphyxia caused by electrocution. He cited physiological signs such as fluid blood consistency, subpleural petechial hemorrhages in the brain, abrasions on the right forearm, and an electric burn on the right knee as indicators supporting his conclusion.

The court subsequently adjourned the matter to August 8, 2025, to allow defence counsel representing Chrisland Schools and the vendor an opportunity to cross-examine Dr. Daniel.
