Shakira is currently on her first world tour in seven years, set to perform nearly 50 dates across Latin America by the end of June, followed by more concerts in the United States and Canada.
The 48-year-old, four-time Grammy-winning Colombian singer-songwriter was hospitalized on Saturday for an abdominal condition, causing her to cancel a major Sunday performance. Investigations began on Tuesday regarding the leak of Shakira’s medical records after she received treatment at a clinic in Lima. A spokeswoman for Peru’s national health service watchdog told AFP that the inquiry was ongoing, and the clinic could face a fine of up to $430,000.
“We visited the clinic yesterday (Monday), met with the officials, and they provided their explanation, which is confidential,” said spokeswoman Ruby Cubas.
The Delgado Clinic, where Shakira was treated, also initiated an internal investigation into what it called a “serious ethical breach” regarding their handling of personal data. “We have already identified those responsible and have begun the sanctioning process,” the clinic stated.
Despite the setback, Shakira performed in Lima on Monday night, expressing her heartfelt gratitude to her “beautiful Peruvian audience” with a message of “eternal thanks” for all the love and care they’ve shown her.
