Lagos State Governor, Babajide Olusola Sanwo-Olu, celebrated his 60th birthday on Wednesday, June 25, 2025, with a series of events that reflected his deep-rooted connection with the people and earned him glowing tributes from political leaders, associates, and citizens.

The day began with a private thanksgiving ceremony and extended into a grand reception held at the prestigious Eko Hotel and Suites, where dignitaries, traditional rulers, party chieftains, government officials, and close associates gathered to honour the governor.

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu led the high-profile tributes, describing Sanwo-Olu as a “dedicated, cerebral, and team-driven leader who has stayed true to the progressive ideals of the Lagos Master Plan.” In a statement issued from the Presidency, Tinubu commended the governor’s achievements in transportation, infrastructure, and urban development, notably highlighting the successful delivery of the Blue and Red rail lines as landmark projects.

“Sanwo-Olu is a performing governor who understands the heartbeat of Lagos,” Tinubu said. “As he turns 60, I urge him to continue focusing on legacy projects such as the Fourth Mainland Bridge and Freedom Way/VGC Road.”

Others who extended birthday greetings include the former PDP governorship candidate, Dr. Abdul-Azeez Olajide Adediran (Jandor), who hailed Sanwo-Olu as a “pragmatic and humble leader” committed to inclusive governance. Tributes also poured in from residents, political allies, and Lagos-based organisations who took to social media to celebrate the governor’s leadership and achievements.

Throughout the day, well-wishers across party lines commended Sanwo-Olu’s calm disposition, transformative vision, and ability to manage the affairs of Africa’s most populous city with grace and strategic focus.

Sanwo-Olu, who served in various public sector roles before becoming governor in 2019, used the occasion to express gratitude to God and reaffirm his commitment to serve Lagos with renewed energy.

“This milestone is a reminder of the journey we have taken and the promise of greater days ahead for our dear state,” he said in a brief remark at the reception.

The evening was marked by musical performances, cultural displays, and the cutting of a ceremonial birthday cake alongside his wife, First Lady Ibijoke Sanwo-Olu, and close family members.
