Portable later turned himself in to the police in Lagos on Wednesday. He was subsequently transferred to the Ogun State police command and brought before the court to face charges.
The controversy began on February 5 when officials of the Ogun State Property and Development Authority (OGPDPA) attempted to seal Portable’s bar due to the absence of proper permits and inadequate air space.
In a ruling on Portable’s bail application, Magistrate O.L. Oke granted the request after the singer pleaded not guilty to five charges, including conspiracy, assault, unlawful restriction, and carrying weapons such as cutlasses and guns, along with conduct likely to cause harm. Following this, Portable’s lawyer, Oluwatoyin Ayodele, urged the court to grant bail.
The incident also led to the arrest and arraignment of nine of Portable’s associates, who face five charges, including armed violence, felony, obstruction, assault, and attempted murder. Each of them was granted bail set at N5 million.
The case has been adjourned until March 5 for trial, with the court setting the bail for the accused at N5 million, along with one surety of similar status.
