On Saturday, June 19, 2021, Peter Pan Enahoro, an Icon of African journalism, will headline a monthly virtual lecture series organized by the Annunciation Catholic College Irrua Old Boys Association (ACCIOBA), North America. His presentation will focus on Nigeria and the arduous task of sustaining and maintaining the floundering One Nigeria Project amid palpable dissent by its component parts.
At age 23, Peter Pan Enahoro, was appointed the Editor of Sunday Times in 1958, and four years later, at age 27, he became the youngest journalist to edit Nigeria’s iconic newspaper, the Daily Times in 1962, and was promoted Editor-in-Chief in 1966. He was forced into self-exile in Europe from 1966 to 1979 when the military stormed his home because of his position on the 1966 military coups and the ensuing political crises that culminated in the Nigeria civil war.
Peter Pan Enahoro’s work experience include Assistant Publicity Officer, Federal Information Services, 1954; Sub-editor, Daily Times of Nigeria Limited, Lagos, 1955; Assistant District Manager, Rediffusion Company, Ibadan, 1956; Acting Features Editor, Daily Times, 1957; Editor, Sunday Times, 1958 – 62; Editor, Daily Times, 1962- 64; Group Editorial Adviser, Daily Times, 1965; Editor-in-Chief, Daily Times, 1966; Former Editor, African Magazine, London; Former Editor and Publisher, New African; Publisher, Africa Now, 1980; Chairman, National Broadcasting Commission, 1992-94; Sole Administrator, Daily Times of Nigeria PLC, 1997-99. He is a patron of the International Press Institute and a respected fellow of the Commonwealth Journalists Association.
Enahoro is a world-renowned author. His books include ‘How to be a Nigerian, 1966; You Gotta Cry to Laugh, 1972; The Complete Nigerian, 1992; and Who’s Who in Nigerian Politics, 1999. He is an ardent golfer and a member of the lkoyi Club, Lagos; Ikeja Golf Club, Lagos; IBB International Golf and Country Club, Abuja; Addington Palace Golf Club, Addington, Surrey, England. He attended Government College, Ughelli. He is married to Susana Maria-Elizabeth, and has children.
