Kalu said while much attention is given to security forces, the devastating loss of civilian lives, destruction of businesses, and ruined livelihoods in the South-East has largely been ignored.

The senator warned that the current emotional reactions over Kanu’s life imprisonment could worsen tensions and urged calm and strategic engagement with the Federal Government. He emphasized that leaders and communities should seek negotiated settlements rather than resorting to violence or public protests.

Kalu also defended Justice James Omotosho, the judge who sentenced Kanu, saying the verdict was lawful and appropriate. He urged critics to pursue legal appeals instead of insulting the judiciary.

Revealing his role behind the scenes, Kalu said he has engaged with the Attorney General and plans to advise for  a political resolution to the crisis, highlighting the importance of dialogue in restoring peace and stability in the region.
