The recovered funds are intended to be used to support infrastructural development in Nigeria.

This is as a result of the pact signed in December 2025 by Jersey’s Attorney General, Mark Temple following a forfeiture process initiated at the Royal Court of Jersey.

The court held that the money in a Jersey account was proceeds of corruption perpetrated by senior Nigerian politicians in the neighboring country. The court ordered the forfeiture of funds in the Jersey bank account on January 12, 2024.

Nigeria and Jersey have had long-standing cooperation which has resulted in the return of over N300 million dollars previously.

The funds were used to fund major infrastructural projects including the Lagos–Ibadan Expressway, the Second Niger Bridge, and the Abuja–Kano Road.

Forthwith the Attorney General and Minister of Justice, Lateef Fagbemi has promised that the recovered funds will be used in accordance to the agreement.
