IPAC reacts to Ogun governorship poll
Inter-Party Advisory Council (IPAC) has applauded the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) for its performance during the Governorship and State Assembly elections in Ogun State.
The state Chairman of IPAC and People’s Redemption Party state Chairman, Samson Okusanya, gave the commendation in Abeokuta while briefing reporters on the outcome of the elections.
The Chairman, who hailed INEC for the early mobilisation of human and material resources at polling units, said the last governorship election was better organised than the previous ones.
He said early transmission of results from most of the polling booths helped to validate the integrity of the exercise.
“We commend INEC for early commencement of voting in majority of the polling units in Ogun State. We alsopraise the commission for the early transmission of results in most of the constituencies in the state,” Okusanya said.
IPAC frowned at the conduct of the governorship candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Ladi Adebutu, saying it threatened the peace of the state.
Congratulating Prince Dapo Abiodun (MFR) on his re-election, Okusanya warned the PDP and ADC candidates to toe the line of honour by seeking legal means, rather than engaging in street protests or inciting the public against constituted authority.
He said: “We congratulate the winner, Prince Abiodun. His victory is a refreshing one to every common man and ultimate will of God.
“We want to make this known to Nigerians that everything as stipulated by the Electoral Act has come to play.”
“It is a good development in the political terrain of Nigeria. So, we thank the political actors and the electorate for the successful conduct of the election.”
The body advised the governor-elect to remain focused to deliver on the dividends of democracy, while also assuring him of cooperation of the opposition.
