A 19-year-old divorcee, Aisha Isiyaku, suspected by her family members to have indulged in promiscuity, has been allegedly murdered by her elder brothers.
According to Maro, late Aisha’s mother, the incident occurred in their residence in Dawakin Kudu Local Government Area of Kano State.
She said that some members of her family accused her daughter of promiscuity.
“Aisha was my daughter. I continued to manage the situation until that fateful day in July. I returned from a ceremony and found Kawu, Gata, Ibrahim and Sulu Auwalu beating her with horse whips.
“I asked them why they were beating her, they told me that our big aunt, Zuwairra, ordered them to beat her because she refused to stay back in her marriage and that since she returned to the family house, she had been messing around. They added that she left the house 10 days ago without any explanation when queried.
“I pleaded with them to stop beating her but they refused. Then, she fell down. I noticed that she stopped breathing, I told them that Aisha was dead but they disagreed with me. They brought cold water and poured it on her but she did not respond.
“We summoned our community leader, Sarkin Dawaki, who inspected her and told us that she was lifeless,” she said.
A neighbour, Mudasir Aliyu, who claimed that he witnessed the crime being committed, alleged that Aisha was beaten to death by her elder brothers.
Aliyu said, “They were beating her. When I tried to intervene, they would not listen to me. They said that she was wayward and that aunty Zuwaira directed them to whip her back to her senses.”
Zuwaira simply said, “From Allah we came, to Him we shall return. Allah has seen my heart; I did not act to hurt anybody. I pray to Allah to judge me according to my thinking.”
When contacted, spokesperson for the Kano State Police Command, DSP Abdullahi Kiyawa, said the Command had arrested three brothers in connection with the murder of late Aisha.
He added that the case had also been transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department for further investigations.
