Chris Brown Released on £5 Million Bail Over London Nightclub Assault Allegation.
American R&B singer Chris Brown has been released on conditional bail following charges of grievous bodily harm stemming from an alleged assault at a London nightclub in 2023.
Brown, 36, who was not present for the bail hearing at Southwark Crown Court on Wednesday, was granted release on the condition that he pays a £5 million guarantee. The Grammy-winning artist is permitted to continue with his international tour, which is scheduled to begin on June 8 in Amsterdam, the presiding judge confirmed.
The charges relate to an incident on February 19, 2023, at a nightclub in Hanover Square, central London. Authorities allege that Brown, while on tour in the UK, was involved in an attack in which the victim, identified as Abraham Diah, was struck multiple times with a bottle before being chased, punched, and kicked.
Brown was formally charged last week with “grievous bodily harm with intent” alongside co-defendant Omololu Akinlolu, also a U.S. national. Both are due to appear in court again on June 20.
According to the court, if Brown fails to return to the UK for scheduled performances, including a London date on June 15, the £5 million bail will be forfeited. Judge Tony Baumgartner stipulated that the singer must reside at an address known to the court and is barred from contacting the alleged victim or entering the nightclub where the incident occurred.
Police arrested Brown in the early hours of May 13 at a luxury hotel in Manchester after he reportedly arrived in the UK via private jet.
Judge Baumgartner further ruled that Brown must surrender his passport when not travelling and comply strictly with the terms of his bail.
