In an unexpected development, the Minister of Works, Dave Umahi, revealed that he was not informed about the closure of the Lagos Independence Bridge, which caused significant traffic congestion across the state yesterday. Umahi explained that, although his ministry designed the rehabilitation plan, it was unfortunate that he was not consulted when it came time to begin the project.
Earlier in the day, Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu visited the closed section of the bridge and expressed his apologies to Lagosians for the severe traffic delays. He also advised motorists to avoid Victoria Island unless absolutely necessary.
The closure, intended for rehabilitation purposes, led to motorists spending hours in traffic. Umahi made the revelation about his lack of prior knowledge during an interview following his visit to the scene, which was conducted under the instructions of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.
