The conversation shifted focus to Dieko’s appearance at the premiere of his father’s latest film, Recall. While criticism arose, many defended Dieko, denouncing the backlash as cyberbullying and unwarranted hate.
Dieko Afolayan, the 19-year-old son of acclaimed Nigerian filmmaker Kunle Afolayan, has spoken out against the online scrutiny surrounding his sexuality. “I want to be a role model for boys and girls out there. To be honest, most of my role models are women. I am unapologetic about who I am, my values, and my standards,” he shared.
Dieko continued, emphasizing his resolve: “I will keep introducing myself until people truly know me. If you’re looking for a space where hard work meets success or wondering how someone becomes who they are, you’re welcome to follow my journey.” He further expressed his ambition and work ethic, calling himself “ambitious and hardworking.”
“I am also an individual trying to find himself in a chaotic world—one where I’m often not accepted and pressured to conform to society’s expectations. It’s frustrating,” he said. “One thing people should understand about me is that I am reserved. I’m an influencer, creator, and entrepreneur. I come from a family of stars.”
“I am a person of many talents,” Dieko added. “At 19, I am ambitious, hardworking, and self-aware.”
His fashion choices and demeanor sparked heated debates on social media, with some questioning his sexuality and others accusing him of being influenced by Western views on gender identity.
