President Receives Tunde Onakoya, Congratulates Him on Chess Marathon World Record
President Bola Tinubu on Tuesday received Tunde Onakoya, founder of Chess in Slums Africa, at the Presidential residence, where Onakoya formally presented his Guinness World Record for the longest chess marathon.
The President praised Onakoya’s inspiring journey from the streets of Lagos to the global stage, noting that his story is a powerful reflection of the resilience and brilliance of Nigeria’s youth.
“Through chess, Tunde is opening minds and transforming lives in communities that are too often overlooked,” the President said. “His work exemplifies the kind of vision and impact our administration supports—where no child is left behind, and no talent is wasted.”
The President expressed a keen interest in seeing Chess in Slums Africa replicated across the country and announced plans to meet Onakoya again in Abuja to explore ways the government can support and expand his initiative.
“Nigeria is proud of him,” the President concluded. “And we will walk with him.”
