The Edo State Governor, Mr. Godwin Obaseki, has said his government will continue to prioritize investment in road construction projects across rural communities and also beef up security on waterways working with community-led groups.
Obaseki gave the assurance when he received members of the Edo State Niger Delta Ex-Agitators Forum, who were on a courtesy visit at the Government House, Benin City.
The governor, represented by his Chief of Staff, Osaigbovo Iyoha, said his recent visit Inikorogha and Gelegele Communities in Ovia South-West Local Government Area (LGA) of the state was to assess the development needs of the people in a bid to ensure that the government brings development closer to rural dwellers.
Reassuring the government’s commitment to improving the living standards of the people, Obaseki said his administration will ensure the construction of the Udo-Inikorogha-Ofunama Road to open the area for more economic activities and also partner with the community leaders to firm security around riverine communities.
He noted, “Governor Obaseki is a man that keeps to his promises. The Udo-Inikorogha-Ofunama Road will receive attention sooner than expected. As a government, we have the interest of our people at heart and will bring to pass all our campaign promises.
“We are speaking with your people in government and have commissioned those that will do the feasibility study of the roads. Rest assured that the road will get attention. Our visit to Inikorogha and Gelegele is to get first-hand information and soon, you will see things done. We urge you to support the government in ensuring peace in your communities so as to sustain the government’s development strides.”

“I charge you to continue to engage with this administration so as to get first-hand information as we operate an open-door policy,” he charged.
Earlier, the leader of the group, Abiodun Peter Edah, hailed the Obaseki-led government for putting the people at the forefront of its government programmes and policies, pledging unalloyed loyalty and support to the government.
He appealed for the constitution of the Waterways Committee across the state’s coastal areas to protect the riverine communities and ensure peace, adding, “We also appeal for more appointments of our people into political positions in the state.”
