The Nigerian film industry is in mourning following the passing of veteran actor, producer, and director, Kayode Peters, who reportedly died in Canada after a prolonged battle with illness.
The news of his death was confirmed through an official Instagram statement released by the Adewumi family, who described Peters as a fighter who “braved, challenged, and conquered a long-time illness until his last breath” on the morning of his passing.
According to the family, he died peacefully. They also appealed for privacy and compassion as they begin funeral preparations and navigate their period of grief.
Kayode Peters was a prominent figure in Nigeria’s entertainment landscape, widely respected for his immense contributions to stage and screen. He gained widespread acclaim for directing and producing hit sitcoms such as Flatmates in the early 2000s, and Extended Family, among other notable works.
Beyond television, he played a key role in shaping contemporary Nigerian theatre, mentoring young talents and bringing comedic storytelling to mainstream audiences.
