President Bola Ahmed Tinubu on Thursday met with key political stakeholders from Rivers State, including Governor Siminalayi Fubara, Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, the Deputy Governor, members of the Rivers State House of Assembly, and other relevant figures in Abuja. The high-level meeting, held at the Presidential Villa, is part of efforts by the President to bring lasting peace to the state following months of political turmoil.
Recall that on March 18, 2025, President Tinubu declared a state of emergency in Rivers State, following a breakdown in governance arising from the bitter feud between Governor Fubara and his predecessor, Nyesom Wike, who is now a key minister in the Federal Executive Council. In response, the President suspended Governor Fubara, his deputy, and members of the state legislature pending the resolution of the crisis.
Sources familiar with Thursday’s meeting disclosed that President Tinubu has successfully reconciled the aggrieved parties and secured firm commitments from all sides to uphold peace and work collaboratively in the interest of the people of Rivers State. As a result, there are strong indications that Governor Fubara may soon be reinstated and return to office in Port Harcourt to resume his constitutional duties.
Although the Presidency has yet to issue an official statement as of press time, aides to some of those present at the meeting confirmed that a framework for peace has been agreed upon, and modalities for a formal resolution are already underway.
More updates are expected in the coming days as developments unfold.
