Bye-election: Gov. Ikpeazu orders restriction of movement in Aba

Ahead of the Aba North/South bye-election on Saturday, Abia state governor, Dr. Okezie Ikpeazu has approved the restriction of movements in the two affected Local Government Areas (LGAs) from 8:00pm (2000hrs) Friday, 26th March, 2021 to 6:00am (0600hrs) Sunday, 28th March, 2021.

The governor in a a statement signed by the Commissioner for Information, Chief John Okiyi Kalu said voters, Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) officials on election duty, workers on essential duties with proper identification documents and security operatives are exempted from the restrictions within the stated period.

He further announced that the usual monthly environmental sanitation exercise will go ahead in the other 15 LGAs on Saturday, March 27, calling on concerned Local Government Chairmen to lock down their respective LGAs within the period of the clean up exercise.

The candidates for the federal constituency election have since rounded off their campaigns in readiness for the election.

Three notable candidates, Mascot Uzor Kalu of the APC, Chimaobi Ebisike of the PDP and Destiny Nwagwu of the APGA are expected to square it up.

Recall that the House of Representatives seat became vacant following the death of the former occupant, Ossy Prestige who passed on in Germany hospital this year.
