Benue kidnappers abduct three, demand N1.7m ransom
Kidnappers, on Tuesday, reportedly abducted three persons including a policeman and two other victims at the Ahume end of the Naka/Makurdi Road in Benue State.
PUNCH Metro gathered that the victims were returning from a burial ceremony when the suspects ambushed them around 4pm on the expressway and whisked them away to an unknown destination.
It was learnt that following the abduction, the suspects contacted the relatives of the victims and demanded N1.7m ransom.
The Chairman, Gwer West Local Government Area, Andrew Ayande, who confirmed the incident on Wednesday, said the area was notorious for criminality.
Ayande said, “This incident happened on Tuesday; we lost one prominent person around the place on Monday and they took the corpse home on Tuesday. The people (hoodlums) came as usual and they attacked the people in one of the vehicles.
“A policeman and two others were kidnapped around 4pm at Ahume, Naka/Makurdi Road, and the vehicle the victims were in has been taken to Naka Police Station.”
Asked if the abductors had contacted the victims’ relatives, the chairman said, “The abductors were demanding N200,000 from the family of the police, N1m from the woman and they also demanded N500,000 from the other victim.”
Contacted, the state Police Public Relations Officer, Catherine Anene, said she had yet to receive the report.
