JAMB Admits Error in 2025 UTME, Orders Resit for Nearly 380,000 Candidates.
The Registrar of the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB), Professor Ishaq Oloyede, has admitted to errors in the conduct of the 2025 Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME), announcing that hundreds of thousands of candidates will have to retake the exam.
Speaking at a press conference on Wednesday, an emotional Oloyede accepted full responsibility for the lapses, which he attributed to the negligence of some JAMB staff. Struggling to hold back tears, he disclosed that the error affected several centres in Lagos State and in the South East, particularly those under the Owerri Zone.
According to the registrar, a total of 65 centres in Lagos and 92 in the South East have been identified as compromised, prompting the decision for a resit.
In total, 379,997 candidates from the affected zones will be required to retake the examination. Professor Oloyede emphasized that the integrity of the UTME must be upheld and assured the public that corrective measures are being put in place to prevent a recurrence.
