AMVCA 2025: Lisabi: The Uprising and Seven Doors Dominate Winners’ List:
The 11th edition of the Africa Magic Viewers’ Choice Awards (AMVCA) was held on Saturday night in grand style, celebrating excellence in African film and television. Among the biggest winners of the evening were Lisabi: The Uprising and Seven Doors, with both productions clinching multiple honors.
Lisabi: The Uprising emerged as a standout, winning in several technical and artistic categories including:
Best Make-up – Hakeem Onilogbo (Hakeem Effect)
Best Art Direction
Best Indigenous Language Film (West Africa)
Meanwhile, Seven Doors took home the coveted Best Score/Music award, thanks to the creative direction of Tolu Obanro.
Other notable winners included:
Best Costume Design – Christmas in Lagos (Adedamola Adeyemi)
Best Sound/Sound Design – Suspicion
Best Editing – Inkabi (Tongai Furusa)
Best Writing in a TV Series – Untying Kantai (Abel Mutua Musyoka)
Best Writing in a Movie – Freedom Way (Blessing Uzzi)
Best Indigenous Language Film (Southern Africa) – Mwizukanji
Best Indigenous Language Film (East Africa) – Makosa Di Tangu
Best Cinematography – The Legend of the Vagabond Queen of Lagos (Leo Purman)
In acting categories, Mercy Aigbe won Best Supporting Actress for her role in Farmer’s Bride, while Gabriel Afolayan secured Best Supporting Actor for Inside Life.
The Trailblazer Award was presented to Kayode Kasum, while industry veterans Sani Mu’azu and Nkem Owoh were honored with the Industry Merit Award for their outstanding contributions to African cinema.
In the television category:
Best Indigenous M-Net Original – Onye Agbata Obim
Best Scripted M-Net Original – My Fairytale Wedding
Digital content was also recognized, with Iyo Prosper winning Best Digital Content Creator.
The 2025 AMVCA reaffirmed its commitment to spotlighting African talent and storytelling, with this year’s edition showcasing a growing diversity of regional voices and genres across the continent.
