During a recent visit, President Tinubu praised the FCT Minister for his efforts in improving the status of Abuja as the nation’s capital city. On Sunday, the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, led a delegation of Abuja residents to the Presidential Villa to extend Sallah greetings to President Bola Tinubu. This visit came amidst rumors regarding Wike’s health following reports of him collapsing at a meeting on Friday, after which it was reported that he was flown to France for medical treatment.
The visit was attended by Vice President Senator Kashim Shettima, Minister of Information and National Orientation Mohamed Idris, and other notable FCT residents. Expressing his gratitude for the president’s continued support for the FCT administration, Wike noted that none of their significant governance and development achievements would have been possible without President Tinubu’s commitment to both the FCT and its people.
The minister emphasized that despite their diverse backgrounds, they were united in their support for Tinubu’s administration and the Renewed Hope Agenda. “This unity highlights the collective commitment of the FCT people to national progress and development under your visionary leadership,” Wike added. “The delegation before you today represents the rich diversity of the Federal Capital Territory. It includes representatives from various sectors, such as religious, political, and traditional leaders, heads of security agencies, FCT Administration officials, media representatives, and ordinary citizens.”
During the Sallah homage, Wike extended congratulations to President Tinubu and the Muslim community for completing 30 days of fasting, prayers, and sacrifice. He commended the president’s dedication to promoting unity, good governance, and national development, saying, “The residents of the FCT are deeply grateful for your leadership and the initiatives aimed at enhancing the well-being of all of us.”
Wike also acknowledged the historic nature of the visit, as it marked the first time FCT residents had the chance to personally convey their greetings to the president during this blessed period. “As we approach the second anniversary of your administration, we are eager to witness the range of impactful projects we have lined up for commissioning,” Wike stated.
The minister further expressed appreciation for the president’s support of the FCT administration, highlighting key achievements such as the approval for the FCTA’s exit from the Treasury Single Account (TSA), the creation of the FCT Civil Service Commission, and the establishment of two new critical Mandate Secretariats for Women and Youths. These moves, Wike said, have strengthened governance and improved service delivery, leading to a better quality of life for ordinary citizens. “These bold initiatives have improved the efficiency of the FCTA and positioned us for greater achievements,” he concluded.
