All Progressives Congress presidential candidate Asiwaju Bola Tinubu will on Wednesday meet with President Muhammadu Buhari over choice of his running mate in the 2023 general election.
Sources said, the meeting will take place at the Presidential Villa where Tinubu will be expected to present a list of three names to the President from which Buhari will be enjoined to pick a candidate.
However, it was gathered that Tinubu’s camp is narrowing its choice on former Borno State Governor Kashim Shettima even though contending forces within the party are angling for other persons.
Shettima is a strong associate of Tinubu and his role in the build-up to the primary was well-documented.
“The dilemma is that some of the governors are also interested especially Abdullahi Umar Ganduje (Kano), Atiku Bagudu (Kebbi), and Mohammad Badaru Abubakar (Jigawa) who are all from North-West. However, the idea is to have the slot ceded to the Northeast to counter the candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party, Atiku Abubakar.” All things being equal, Shettima’s choice would be announced once Asiwaju meets with the President who is expected to endorse him,” the source said.
