Ogun assembly swears in new lawmaker

The Ogun Assembly, on Tuesday, swore in Olakunle Sobukanla of the All Progressives Congress representing Ikenne Constituency as a member of the 10th Assembly.

This development followed the annulment of the election of Babajide Owoduni of the Peoples Democratic Party by the Court of Appeal.

The Court of Appeal sitting in Lagos had last November nullified the election of Owoduni and declared Sobukanla, who was also a member of the 9th legislature elected.

Sobukanla took the oath of office and oath of allegiance administered by the Deputy Clerk, Mrs Funmilayo Adeyemi, during a plenary held at the Assembly Complex, Oke-Mosan, Abeokuta.

The Speaker, OlakunlebOluomo, on behalf of other lawmakers, congratulated Sobukanla for returning to the House of Assembly.

Shortly after his swearing-in, Sobukanla promised to always remain a good representative of his constituents.

“I am very happy to be back to where I belong. My constituency should expect quality representation as usual. I thank Governor Dapo Abiodun for his support,” he said.

Meanwhile, the appeal court sitting in Abuja has also re-affirmed the victory of  Oluomo, representing Ifo 1 State Constituency against his opponent in the last general election, Okikiola Ogundele of the PDP.

The appeal court also awarded a N500,000 fine against the appellant.

Reacting to his victory, Oluomo stated that the judgment was a reaffirmation of his victory which was consistently affirmed from the ballot box to the apellate court.

He thanked his constituents for believing in his representation and commended the judiciary for its consistency in the pursuit of justice for the promotion of democracy.

Oluomo added that the judgment would spur him to do more for his constituents and the state.
