Lagos commissioner’s wife Prof Ibiyemi Olatunji-Bello becomes new LASU VC

Professor of medicine Ibiyemi Olatunji-Bello has been named the ninth substantive vice-chancellor of the Lagos State University (LASU).

She is the wife of Lagos State commissioner for environment and water resources Tunji Bello.

Olatunji-Bello had briefly led LASU as acting vice-chancellor from December 2010 to October 2011.

Born on April 23, 1964, Olatunji-Bello’s appointment was announced on Thursday.

She bagged her first degree in physiology in 1985 at the University of Ibadan and got her master’s degree in 1987 at the University of Lagos.

She is the pioneering director of LASU Directorate of Advancement which was established by former vice chancellor Prof Lanre Fagbohun in 2016.

She is a member of many professional bodies and was the first female second vice president, Physiological Society of Nigeria, and the first vice president, also first female to hold that position up to 2019.

Olatunji-Bello has served as chairman, organising committee of an international conference of the International Union of Physiological Sciences and Association of African Physiological Societies in 2016. She has also contributed chapters in some textbooks and e-learning materials.

Blessed with three children, she is the area pastor in charge of Testimony Chapel, an area under Lagos Province 1 of the Redeemed Christian Church of God (RCCG).
