House of Reps Speaker constitutes seven special committees

The Speaker of the House of Representatives, Tajudeen Abbas, upon resumption of office has formed seven special committees to oversee legislative activities.

The Speaker announced the creation of seven special committees on Thursday in Abuja.

The committees include the Internal Security Committee, headed by Representative Mohammed Danjuma, the Selection Committee, chaired by the Speaker himself, and the Media Committee, led by Buka Ibrahim.

Other committees include the Legislative Agenda Committee, chaired by Professor Julius Ihonbvare; the Rules and Business Committee, led by Igariwey Iduma; the Welfare Committee, headed by Wale Raji, and the Ethics and Privileges Committee, chaired by Tunji Olawuyi.

The Speaker has also announced the appointment of Jerry Uhuo and Musa Krishi as his Special Advisers on Policy and Strategy, as well as Media and Publicity respectively.

As contained in a press statement personally signed by the Speaker and made available to the media, the appointment of both aides takes effect immediately.

Until Krishi’s appointment, he served as the Chief Press Secretary to the immediate past Speaker of the 9th House of Representatives, Femi Gbajabiamila, from 2019 to 2023. The graduate of Mass Communication has several years of experience in legislative reporting, covering both the House and the Senate at different times for the Daily Trust and is well acquainted with legislative nuances.

The journalist from Nasarawa State joined Daily Trust as the Best Graduating Student, Mass Communication from the famous Kaduna Polytechnic in 2012 as part of the newspaper’s policy. Between 2014 and 2015, he served as the Assistant Political Editor at the Daily Trust and rose to become a Senior Correspondent.

An associate of the Nigerian Institute of Public Relations, Krishi also holds a Postgraduate Diploma in Mass Communication from Bayero University, Kano, where he graduated as the best student of his set with distinction.

The Speaker charged him to bring his wealth of experience acquired over the years on board in line with the Legislative Agenda of the 10th House of Representatives.
