Former Minister of Information and Communications, Frank Nweke Jr has slammed the All Progressives Congress (APC) for fielding a Muslim-Muslim ticket for the 2023 presidential election.

Recall that the APC presidential candidate, Bola Ahmed Tinubu had picked the former Governor of Borno State, Senator Kashim Shettima, as his running mate.

Following the development, various reactions and outrage have greeted the APC and Tinubu’s decision to field a Muslim-Muslim ticket for the 2023 presidential election.

In an interview with the Puch, Nweke said that the ruling party failed to put into cognisance the country’s diversity before settling for the ticket of the same faith.

The All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) governorship candidate in Enugu State said that Tinubu and the APC should have considered how deeply the nation has become divided along ethnic and religious lines in the last seven years.

He pointed out that Tinubu should have been a statesman per excellence and show sensitivity to the issues that are of concern to the component groups in the country.

Nweke said: “In a country with Nigeria’s diversity, it is my well-considered view that greater consideration should have been given to the make-up of this ticket especially given how deeply our country has become divided along ethnic and religious lines in the last seven years.

“Anyone who aspires to lead the country at this time must be a statesman per excellence and show sensitivity to the issues that are of concern to the component groups in Nigeria. Thankfully, we are in a democracy and I believe everyone will have their day at the polls.”
